Your Short Films - Copyright
Our goal here is to allow student filmmakers to keep the © copyright  to their original works of authorship -- their original stories - treatments - scripts and completed short films -- made at USC. Clearly it will be an uphill battle. USC copyright policy that transfers the copyright of student films to the University is deeply entrenched - 2000 - 2005 - Sept. 2007. It's like a brick wall. We may never move USC to give an inch. Still, it's the right thing for USC Cinema to do, so we ought to let the University know we are learning more about U.S. copyright law, we're passing along that information, and we are willing to shine a bright light on their ridiculous copyright policy.

Here are some very silly copyright concepts made-up by USC Cinema:

Broncho Billy
BRONCHO BILLY
After 28 years the Authors - the USC Cinema Film Students who created Broncho Billy - now own the Copyright to the short film. U.S. Copyright Law later was revised in favor of corporations, institutions and moive studios. Individual Authors can no longer renew the Copyright to their works during the 28th year - or at any time. Once transferred, Copyright is gone from the Authors forever. Thus, if a USC Cinema film student does not start off owning the copyright to their original work - their short film - they never will. Finally we got our Copyright for our film. Now we are seeking changes in USC Cinema policy so future film students can own the copyright to their films as well.
