- USC School of Cinematic Arts - U.S. Copyright law information / instruction for film students
- U.S. Copyright Registration of Story - Treatment - Screenplay by the Authors / film students
- Collaboration Agreements / Deal Memos between student Authors and their film crews
- U.S. Copyright Registration by film students for their own Short Films - not USC Cinema
- A Marketing / Distribution agreement between student copyright owners and USC Cinema
Those are the key results sought by our on-going USC Cinema Copyright Campaign
It's The Right Thing To Do

Imagine a film school filled with a bunch of Authors / copyright owners walking by and heading off to their next class. That's quite a different perception than film students who make short films who's right, title and interests in their original works are then owned by someone else. Think about it. What a changed perception of dignity toward the young film students. It's as it ought to be. That's what U.S. Copyright is all about - rights to Authors. It's in the U.S. Constitution. It's part of U.S. Copyright law. We ought to abide by it. It's the right thing to do.

Film students to work out copyright ownership to a completed short film, BEFORE production starts.
As the copyright owner, the Author of the story - treatment - screenplay - has the exclusive right to do or authorize a derivative work - a short film. Film students ought to learn to draft Collaboration Agreements / Deal Memos between the Story Author and each member of the film crew.

Learn something about Copyright - it's good for you
USC Cinema film students who own the copyright to their short films
can enter into a distribution agreement with the USC Cinema Office of Student-Industry Relations and follow set guidelines that provide that all rights with respect to the short films are cleared. The Office of Student-Industry Relations can help distribute student short films to film festivals and on Internet sites. USC Cinema does not have to own the copyright to short films to provide that service - if the are willing to do it.
